Current Residents

Alaina Kortokrax

Alaina Kortokrax, PGY1 Resident

Getting to focus on ambulatory care right out of pharmacy school is what drew Alaina Kortokrax, PharmD 鈥24 to 91直播鈥檚 PGY1 program.

鈥淚 love the personal and clinical aspects of ambulatory care. It allows me to connect to my patients and their health, rather than standing behind a wall. Doing so gives me purpose. Helping patients better understand their care and watching as they take control of their health is truly empowering.鈥

From nearby Delphos, Ohio, Alaina was drawn to 91直播 as a high school student. She completed her PharmD at the Raabe College of Pharmacy where she was involved in the Rural and Underserved Health Scholars Program.

鈥淚 know what it is like living in a rural community; being far away from care is one of the biggest social determinants of health around here and in my hometown. Pharmacists are so unique when it comes to healthcare. You can see us whenever you come into the pharmacy and we can be that bridge. With ambulatory care pharmacy, we are able to perform basic screenings and evaluate your medications to improve your health. We can possibly find or address problems before they worsen, which is critical when major healthcare centers that treat late-stage problems are so far away.鈥

She enjoys the variety the residency brings; no day is exactly like another. She dispenses medications in the HealthWise pharmacy, assesses patients鈥 mediations in the call center, precepts and teaches 91直播 students, and connects with the surrounding communities on the Mobile Clinic.

鈥淛umping right into making a difference is what this residency is all about.鈥

Lena Salameh

Lena Salameh, PGY1 Resident

91直播 Healthwise Mobile Health Clinic attracted Lena Salameh to the 91直播 Healthwise PGY1 Residency program. 91直播 Healthwise鈥檚 mission is to educate and improve the health of underserved populations within the community. The clinic is not only pharmacist-led but free of charge to the community and Lena knew it was a perfect fit.

鈥淕etting to be a part of a team of different clinicians to serve the people of Hardin County while also becoming the clinician yourself allows you to learn and grow within the pharmacy profession.鈥

Alongside the clinical aspect of 91直播 Healthwise, the ability to precept students was a large determining factor as to why Lena chose 91直播. 鈥淚 was so grateful to have amazing advisors and mentors who guided me to get to the point where I am today, and I hope to be the same influence for the future pharmacists at 91直播, whether it is as a preceptor or a friend.鈥

From Huntington, W.Va., Lena earned her Bachelor鈥檚 in Chemical Sciences and then continued to receive her PharmD from Marshall University. After working in the outpatient setting and having her APPE rotations ambulatory care-based, Lena was encouraged by her peers and preceptors to pursue a PGY1 residency.

Lena knew she wanted to help others in a more personal but clinical setting. 鈥淗ealthWise is changing lives and truly bringing help to the community. Regardless of whether they see one patient or ten, someone鈥檚 life is impacted for the better. The pharmacists are passionate about making change and are determined to make an impact.鈥

Lena鈥檚 PGY1 research project is enabling her to explore this interest by creating a pharmacist-led clinic for sexual and reproductive health services to provide resources and safe space for students.
